Module 1: Background And Clinical Aspects Of Clozapine
This module begins with a brief background to schizophrenia and an overview of the classes of antipsychotics which are used to treat this condition. It then moves on to look in more detail at the history of clozapine, its indications and the mandatory blood monitoring requirements which are required for all patients receiving treatment with clozapine in the United Kingdom. The module ends with guidance on initiating and maintaining patients on clozapine.
Module 2: Clozapine - Patient Management
This module explores some of the most common, as well as the most serious side effects of clozapine. It provides information on the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and management of a range of side-effects including:
Hypersalivation
Constipation and clozapine-induced gastrointestinal hypomotility
Weight gain
The module ends by examining the cardiometabolic and cardiovascular risks to patients taking clozapine, as well as the risks to female patients of child-bearing age.
Module 3: Supporting Your Patient
This module explores some of the some of the broader physical and public health aspects of clozapine treatment, in a wider community and non-mental health specialist setting. This includes understanding and responding to health literacy challenges when tackling medication adherence
