Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP)

Courses: Clozapine - A Concise Clinical Overview & Lithium - A Concise Clinical Overview

The Irish Institute of Pharmacists (IIOP) sought to procure 2 courses for their community pharmacists. IIOP required that the courses would each consist of 3 modules, with clearly defined learning objectives and reflective tasks throughout. Outcomes were to be measured by successful completion of an assessment comprising multiple-choice questions (MCQ) randomly selected from a bank of MCQs. The courses were to be accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and hosted on their Moodle® (LMS) platform. Learn It Online was successful in the tender process for both courses and not only delivered the projects on time, but achieved the required accreditation with minimal adjustments, well within the allotted timeframe. Learn It Online also provided additional value in the form of downloadable resources and received excellent feedback from the client throughout the process.

Queen's University Belfast

Course: Clozapine - A Comprehensive Clinical Programme

Northern Ireland Centre for Pharmacy Learning and Development, Belfast wished to acquire ‘Clozapine- A Comprehensive Clinical Programme’ for all pharmacists. However, they required that the modules would be hosted on their website, as opposed to importing and uploading the SCORM files to their learning management system. They also wanted to set up their own assessment, using their own templates, scoring and reporting system. Learn It Online was able to recreate the course in the required format very quickly and remove the assessment questions which had been built in to each module. Learn It Online provided further assistance by providing the Queen’s University with a bank of multiple-choice questions to help them to build their own assessment process.

Course: Point of Care Quality Care Assessment: All You Need To Know About UK NEQAS

Point of care testing (POCT) for clozapine patients has been available for many years and is a service that is growing in popularity throughout most of the United Kingdom. However, the essential blood monitoring of patients taking clozapine is usually performed in non-hospital settings by non-scientific staff. Learn It Online has collaborated with UK NEQAS to deliver a short online course External Quality Assessment – All you need to know about UK NEQAS to support staff working in point of care clozapine clinics. It is an ideal partner to Clozapine – A Comprehensive Clinical Programme and is available free of charge to organisations subscribing to that course. UK NEQAS also provides NPT/POCT-specific targeted educational meetings around the UK to allow convenient access to training for the benefit of patient safety. For more information about UK NEQAS training and support, and to explore the rest of their services visit their website.

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

Course: Clozapine - A Comprehensive Clinical Programme

 Oxford Health is one of the few English Trusts offering clozapine shared-care to its patients. Having subscribed to Learn It Online’s (LIO) accredited course ‘Clozapine- A Comprehensive Clinical Programme’, the Trust wanted to extend access to the course to the community pharmacists and GP practices who were delivering the shared-care service provision. As these community-based service providers were unable to access the course via the Trust’s internal learning management system, LIO was able to create a dedicated ‘Oxford Health Community Clozapine Hub’ within its own website. LIO was then able to invite the community staff to join the Hub and enjoy access to education and resources which had never been available previously. LIO was also able to invite a pharmacist from the Trust to join the Hub as an ‘Administrator’, which enabled her to oversee the activity or engagement of the users.

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust

Course: Clozapine-Induced Gastrointestinal Hypomotility (CIGH)

A Mental Health Trust identified an urgent need to deliver training to its staff on the prevention, identification, diagnosis and treatment of clozapine-induced gastrointestinal hypomotility (GIGH) following the death of a clozapine patient. The Learn It Online review and design team worked closely with the Trust’s Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to deliver a course that not only maintained the original module’s accurate and evidence-based content, but also enveloped the relevant aspects of the Trust’s clozapine policy, making it particularly appropriate for the Trust’s staff. Learn It Online is now working closely with the local Health Education England Training Hub in order to roll the course out to GPs and other primary care staff.
