Module 1: Clinical Particulars & Introduction To Lithium
This module begins with a brief background to bipolar affective disorder and lithium, which is used to treat this condition. It then explores the mode of action and therapeutic indications of lithium before looking in more detail at the safe and effective management of lithium. This includes an overview of lithium drug interactions and terminating lithium treatment.
Module 2: Patient Management
This module explores the causes and symptoms of lithium toxicity and how patients can avoid it. The module also examines the following topics:
Key drug interactions
Key long and short term side effects
Weight gain
The module ends by examining the effects of lithium on pregnancy and breastfeeding
Module 3: Patient Management
This module explores some of the some of the broader physical and public health aspects of lithium treatment, in a wider community and non-mental health specialist setting. This includes understanding and responding to health literacy challenges when tackling medication adherence
